La Murtra

L’Albera has many secrets and innumerable haunts with their own strong personality. For me, this is one of the most clearly Mediterranean areas. It is dry and wild, with bright light and an intense aroma. Everywhere you go you find olive groves and vineyards. Even going by car, along its lovely secondary roads, the sharp scent of oils and fine wines can be sensed as you drive by the cooperatives.

In Can Torras they make one of the best natural wines in the Empordà, and besides, the vineyards are found in one of the most magical settings in the area: La Murtra. I don’t know if I go there for the wine or the landscape any more―I forgot which came first. Of course, another reason to go there is to visit Joan Carles and Bárbara, the owners of the winery, a charming couple who are very committed to their wines. The point is, I always try to visit them two or three times a year.
